The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified its political mobilisation across Lagos State, with members and party leaders pledging to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

The commitment was made at a meeting organised by the sociopolitical movement THE REFORMERS, where aspirants, candidates and party stakeholders discussed strategies for strengthening the party’s presence across the state’s local government areas.

Participants reportedly agreed to set aside personal ambitions and work towards a common electoral objective, emphasising party unity, grassroots engagement and coordinated campaigning as priorities ahead of the polls.

Ralph Okey Nwosu, Deputy Director-General (Operations) of the Atiku Abubakar Campaign, urged members to close ranks and capitalise on what he described as growing dissatisfaction with the APC.

Declaring his determination to challenge the ruling party’s dominance in Lagos, Nwosu said the opposition needed to build a coordinated movement capable of translating public discontent into electoral gains.

“I have come to light the fire of Operation BRING DOWN THE LAGOS STRONGHOLD. Power must change hands in Lagos,” he declared.

Nwosu also called on members to support former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition, invoking the political legacy of the late Shehu Yar’Adua as an example of how political organisation and collective action could shape electoral outcomes.

His remarks underscore the ADC’s efforts to strengthen its political structure in Lagos, a state that has remained a major stronghold of the APC for several election cycles.

However, translating opposition mobilisation into electoral success will depend on the party’s ability to build a credible statewide organisation, coordinate its candidates, resolve internal differences and persuade voters that it offers a viable alternative.

Beyond its political message, Nwosu criticised the Federal Government over the economic hardship facing Nigerians. He alleged that deteriorating living conditions had pushed some citizens into desperate survival strategies and raised concerns about food adulteration and the use of dangerous chemicals to preserve agricultural produce.

The comments place economic conditions and public welfare among the issues likely to feature prominently in opposition campaigning ahead of 2027.

With political parties beginning to consolidate their structures, the contest for Lagos is expected to involve competing efforts to mobilise supporters, strengthen local networks and convince voters that a change in leadership would produce tangible improvements in governance.
