The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has described teachers as “nation builders,” pledging to sustain and strengthen their professional development if elected governor in 2027.
Adekanmbi made the pledge in a statement issued by his campaign council spokesperson, Yinka Oladoyinbo, to commemorate the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.
He commended teachers for their role in educating young Nigerians, nurturing future leaders and contributing to the development of the state’s education sector.
According to the APM candidate, the strength of any education system depends substantially on the quality, dedication and professional capacity of its teachers.
Adekanmbi links teachers to education performance
Adekanmbi also credited teachers with what he described as improvements in Oyo State’s educational standards.
He cited the state’s reported third-place position in recent National Examinations Council (NECO) performance metrics, attributing the result to teachers’ dedication, professionalism and cooperation.
The claim about Oyo’s ranking is part of the candidate’s assessment and campaign messaging; specific NECO data supporting the ranking should be consulted when independently assessing the assertion.
Adekanmbi described teachers as important partners in the development of the education sector and pledged to create conditions that would enable them to perform their responsibilities more effectively.
Education becomes campaign issue
The statement comes as political parties and candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
Adekanmbi’s pledge places teacher welfare, professional development and education outcomes among the issues his campaign intends to emphasise.
For teachers, however, the effectiveness of any future policy would ultimately depend on specific measures covering remuneration, training, recruitment, infrastructure and classroom resources.
