Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero has said the economic policy positions of Accord Party presidential candidate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim and Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Adewole Adebayo deserve serious public attention ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Ajaero made the assessment during an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on Mic On, where he was asked about the economic policy positions of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and other presidential contenders.

He identified Olawepo-Hashim and Adebayo among political figures whose economic proposals, in his view, should receive greater public scrutiny as Nigerians assess the alternatives ahead of the election.

Labour leader calls for attention to economic ideas

Ajaero’s remarks come against the backdrop of intense debate over Nigeria’s economic direction, particularly the impact of reforms introduced since President Bola Tinubu assumed office.

Issues including inflation, exchange-rate management, fuel prices, wages, employment and purchasing power are expected to feature prominently in the 2027 presidential campaign.

The NLC president’s comments do not amount to an endorsement of either candidate. Rather, he said their economic positions deserve public attention and examination.

Opposition economic alternatives

Olawepo-Hashim, the Accord Party presidential candidate, and Adebayo of the SDP are among several opposition candidates expected to present alternative economic policies to voters.

The significance of Ajaero’s intervention lies in his call for Nigerians to pay attention to policy proposals rather than campaign personalities alone.

As the election approaches, candidates will face increasing pressure to explain how their proposed policies would address Nigeria’s economic challenges and improve living standards.
