Fresh controversy has erupted within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as aggrieved members in Benue, Kogi and other states alleged irregularities in the nomination process after the party commenced uploading the names of its National Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing renewed internal tensions following allegations by party members in several states that the process of uploading candidates’ names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal was manipulated. The complaints come as political parties submit candidates for the 2027 general elections.
Aggrieved aspirants and their supporters in states including Benue and Kogi alleged that the names uploaded to the INEC portal did not reflect the outcomes of valid party primaries conducted in their constituencies.
Some party members claimed that consensus arrangements, disputed primary results and alleged substitutions had denied successful aspirants their tickets. In Kogi, Senator Jibrin Isah (Echocho) publicly rejected the outcome of the APC senatorial primary, alleging that the process was manipulated and threatening to challenge the result through available legal and political channels.
The disputes come amid nationwide APC primaries that have produced a mix of consensus candidates, contested victories, protests and legal threats in several states.
Political analysts say internal disagreements over candidate selection remain one of the biggest challenges facing major political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly as INEC’s nomination deadline approaches.
As of the time of reporting, the APC had continued uploading candidates’ details to the INEC nomination portal in line with the electoral timetable.
Some aggrieved members have indicated they will seek redress through the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms and, where necessary, the courts. No official statement from the APC national leadership had addressed all of the specific allegations at the time of publication.
The controversy adds to growing post-primary disputes within the ruling party as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum. Attention is now expected to shift to the resolution of internal grievances before the close of the candidate nomination process.
