Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have attacked Logomani community in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, burning a police outpost, a primary healthcare centre and two classrooms after launching an assault on a military base. The attack reportedly left one soldier dead while several public facilities were destroyed.
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have razed key public facilities in Logomani community, Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, following a coordinated overnight attack that also targeted a military base in the area.
The insurgents reportedly attacked the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Logomani before moving into the community, where they set ablaze a police outpost, a primary healthcare centre and two classrooms at a primary school.
According to military authorities, the attack occurred late Tuesday night when heavily armed insurgents launched a coordinated assault on troops of Operation Hadin Kai stationed at the Forward Operating Base.
Although the attackers briefly breached part of the base’s defensive perimeter, troops regrouped and mounted a counter-offensive, forcing the insurgents to retreat after inflicting casualties on them.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, confirmed that one soldier was killed during the exchange, while two military gun trucks and other combat equipment were damaged.
Residents said the insurgents fired sporadically to force people to flee before setting public infrastructure ablaze.
Among the facilities destroyed were a police outpost, a primary healthcare centre and two classrooms in the community’s primary school.
A combined security team comprising the military, police and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force reportedly pursued the fleeing terrorists after the attack, while the Executive Chairman of Ngala Local Government Council, Mala Tijjani Ngala, visited the affected community to assess the extent of the destruction.
Capt. Goni said reinforcements had been deployed to the area and that exploitation operations were ongoing to track down the fleeing insurgents and prevent further attacks.
Following an assessment of the affected facilities, the Ngala Local Government chairman said the findings would be forwarded to the Borno State Government for urgent intervention and reconstruction efforts.
He also appealed to residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies.
The latest attack underscores the persistent security challenges confronting communities in Nigeria’s North-East despite ongoing military offensives against insurgent groups. Authorities say security operations have been intensified in the area as efforts continue to prevent further attacks and restore normalcy to affected communities.
