Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is among the leading contenders for the 2026 Professional Footballers’ Association Players’ Player of the Year award as the 53rd PFA Awards ceremony takes place in Manchester on Tuesday.
Fernandes is competing against Arsenal trio Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhães and David Raya, as well as Manchester City pair Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki, for the prestigious award, which is voted for by professional players.
The Portuguese midfielder enters the ceremony after an outstanding 2025/26 campaign in which he set a new Premier League record with 21 assists, helping Manchester United recover from a difficult start to finish third and secure Champions League qualification.
Fernandes has already collected the Premier League Player of the Season award and the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year honour, putting him in contention for a notable individual-awards sweep.
The PFA award would carry particular significance because it is decided by the players themselves.
The ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday evening, with Fernandes seeking to become the first Manchester United player to win the men’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year award since Wayne Rooney.
