The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted Bello Bodejo, National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, bail in the sum of ₦2 billion as he faces trial over an alleged $2.63 million money laundering case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Justice Inyang Ekwo ruled that the offences are bailable but imposed strict conditions for his release.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has admitted the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, to bail in the sum of ₦2 billion pending the determination of his alleged money laundering trial.

Justice Inyang Ekwo delivered the ruling on Monday after hearing Bodejo’s bail application in a case brought by the EFCC over the alleged laundering of $2.63 million.

The court ordered Bodejo to produce two sureties in the like sum of ₦2 billion.

Justice Ekwo further ruled that one of the sureties must be an Abuja resident with three years’ tax clearance, while the second must own landed property worth ₦2 billion within the Federal Capital Territory.

The court also directed the defendant to surrender his international passport and prohibited him from travelling outside Nigeria without the court’s approval.

The EFCC arraigned Bodejo on 12 counts bordering on alleged money laundering involving approximately $2.63 million.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges when they were read before the court. The anti-graft agency subsequently sought his remand pending trial, while the defence argued that the alleged offences are bailable under Nigerian law.

After granting bail, Justice Ekwo adjourned proceedings until October 5, 6 and 7, 2026, for the commencement of trial.

The court noted that while the allegations are serious, they remain bailable offences and the defendant is entitled to bail under the law pending the outcome of the trial.

Bodejo remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by the court. The forthcoming trial is expected to determine the merits of the EFCC’s allegations against the Miyetti Allah leader.
