The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of a 48-year-old woman who was kidnapped in Ovade Forest, Oghara, in the Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state.
The command also announced the arrest of 54 suspected cultists in separate operations across Eku in Ethiope East, Obiaruku in Ukwuani and Ubulu-Uku in Aniocha South.
Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe disclosed the developments in a statement issued on Thursday.
Woman Rescued During Security Operation
According to the police account, the woman was kidnapped on Wednesday, prompting a distress response by security personnel.
The Divisional Police Officer in Oghara led operatives from the division, the Quick Response Squad, vigilantes and hunters into the forest in an effort to locate and rescue the victim.
The command said approximately four suspected kidnappers engaged the team in a gun duel before retreating and abandoning the woman.
The victim was subsequently rescued unhurt, according to the police statement.
Police Announce Arrests in Three Areas
The command separately reported the arrest of 54 suspected cultists in operations conducted across three local government areas.
The suspects were arrested in connection with alleged cult-related activities, according to the police.
