Anambra governor vows tougher action against controversial preachers and fake miracle claims

A fresh wave of controversy has erupted in Anambra State after Governor Chukwuma Soludo reportedly intensified his crackdown on alleged fake pastors and controversial religious practices across the state.

The move comes amid growing public debate over fake prophecies, staged miracles, and the alleged exploitation of desperate Nigerians by self-acclaimed men of God. Soludo’s administration has repeatedly insisted that religious manipulation and criminal-linked spiritual activities will no longer be tolerated in the state.

Earlier actions by the governor included warnings against loud marketplace preaching and threats of heavy sanctions for violators. The administration also reportedly targeted individuals accused of misleading residents through suspicious miracle claims and ritual-related activities.

The development has sharply divided opinions online. While many residents applauded the governor for confronting what they describe as “spiritual fraud,” others accused the government of crossing into sensitive religious territory. Heated debates have continued across social media platforms, especially among Christians and traditional worshippers in the South-East.

Political observers say the crackdown could reshape conversations around religion, accountability, and public influence in Nigeria, particularly at a time when many citizens increasingly depend on spiritual leaders for direction amid economic hardship.
