The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against criticisms surrounding the alleged extravagant lifestyle of political office holders.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television, Adedeji argued that Tinubu does not live extravagantly despite occupying the country’s highest political office.
According to the NRS chairman, the President’s personal lifestyle does not reflect the perception of excessive spending often associated with Nigeria’s political leadership.
Adedeji reportedly said Tinubu maintains a modest routine, including walking to his office and eating only once a day.
His comments come amid continued public debate over the cost of governance and the lifestyles of political office holders at a time when many Nigerians are dealing with economic pressures.
The defence is likely to fuel further discussion over whether government leaders are sufficiently sensitive to the economic realities facing ordinary Nigerians.
