The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have reportedly flagged off the construction of a ₦25 billion ecumenical chapel and pilgrimage centre at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The development is said to mark a new phase in the inclusion of faith-based facilities within Nigeria’s public infrastructure. The project reportedly includes a chapel and a pilgrimage support centre.
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport is one of Nigeria’s major international gateways. It handles both domestic and international passenger traffic.
CAN has historically engaged in interfaith and national dialogue initiatives. Its involvement in infrastructure-related religious projects has often drawn mixed reactions.
Critics argue that public infrastructure should remain neutral, while supporters say such facilities serve the needs of a diverse population.
