Residents of Gurbi community in Katsina State have reportedly mobilised to prevent armed bandits from entering their town.

The incident occurred in Kankara Local Government Area. Community members gathered in large numbers to defend the area, according to local reports.

Eyewitnesses said residents organised themselves after receiving information about an impending attack. They mounted local vigilance efforts to block entry routes into the town.

Kankara and surrounding areas have experienced repeated attacks in recent years. Armed groups, often referred to as bandits, have targeted rural communities.

Residents in many affected areas have increasingly resorted to self-defence measures. These include local vigilante groups and community patrols.

Security experts warn that while such actions may deter attacks, they also carry risks. Uncoordinated confrontations can escalate violence.

Some residents described the latest mobilisation as necessary for survival. They said repeated attacks have forced communities to take proactive steps.

Nigeria’s northwest region, including Katsina, continues to face security challenges. Government efforts to curb banditry are ongoing but have yielded mixed results.
