The Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, has launched a new financing initiative to enable eligible Nigerians—starting with beneficiaries of the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme—to acquire laptops and other digital devices through affordable consumer credit.
The Federal Government has unveiled a new consumer credit initiative aimed at making laptops, internet-enabled devices and other digital tools more accessible to young Nigerians through structured and affordable financing.
The programme, known as Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.), was launched by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy. It is designed to remove the upfront cost barrier that prevents many young Nigerians from acquiring the digital tools needed for learning, remote work and participation in the digital economy.
Programme begins with 3MTT beneficiaries
According to CREDICORP, the first phase of the initiative targets beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.
The corporation said the scheme will initially provide 1,000 locally assembled laptops, with 77 beneficiaries receiving devices during the launch ceremony in Abuja.
Under the initiative, eligible participants will obtain laptops and other approved digital devices through affordable consumer credit rather than making full upfront payments.
Partnership to promote local manufacturing
The initiative is also expected to support Nigeria’s local technology manufacturing industry.
CREDICORP announced that Fidelity Bank will serve as the credit administration partner, while the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and Imose Technologies will assemble the laptops to be distributed under the programme.
Officials said prioritising locally assembled devices aligns with the Federal Government’s industrialisation agenda while creating jobs across the technology value chain.
Bosun Tijani explains objective
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani said the initiative is intended to ensure that Nigerians who acquire digital skills also have access to the equipment needed to utilise those skills.
According to the minister, expanding access to digital devices is essential to achieving the objectives of the 3MTT programme and strengthening Nigeria’s digital economy.
He noted that providing affordable financing would help reduce financial barriers faced by many young Nigerians seeking careers in technology.
CREDICORP CEO: Credit should unlock opportunities
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba, said the programme transforms digital devices from luxury items into productive assets.
He explained that embedding affordable consumer credit into a national skills programme allows beneficiaries to learn, work and earn without being hindered by the high cost of purchasing laptops outright.
According to him, the initiative also advances the Federal Government’s objective of promoting responsible borrowing while supporting domestic manufacturing.
How interested Nigerians can participate
CREDICORP said qualifying Nigerians will access financing through participating financial institutions under clearly defined repayment terms.
The corporation does not lend directly to individuals but works through partner banks and other financial institutions to provide consumer credit. Interested applicants can learn more and express interest through CREDICORP’s official platform.
The consumer credit programme forms part of President Bola Tinubu’s broader agenda to expand access to responsible credit and stimulate economic growth.
Since its establishment in 2024, CREDICORP has introduced several initiatives supporting access to financing for mobility, energy solutions, home improvement and digital devices. The newly launched C.L.I.C.K.D. programme specifically focuses on equipping young Nigerians with tools required for education, innovation and employment in the digital economy.
