Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said he believes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has good intentions towards the South-East and is committed to integrating the region into the Federal Government’s development agenda.
Umahi made the declaration while speaking about the relationship between the Tinubu administration and the South-East, saying he felt compelled to communicate the President’s intentions to people in the region.
The minister said he believed the administration was taking steps to address infrastructure and development concerns affecting the South-East.
According to Umahi, he considered his role partly as an opportunity to communicate the Federal Government’s efforts and intentions to a region that has often expressed concerns about its relationship with the central government.
The minister’s comments come amid continuing political discussions over the South-East’s relationship with the Tinubu administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Umahi, who previously served as governor of Ebonyi State, has remained one of the administration’s prominent voices from the region.
He has repeatedly highlighted federal infrastructure projects in the South-East as evidence of the government’s commitment to the region.
In his latest remarks, Umahi urged residents of the South-East to recognise what he described as the President’s positive intentions towards the region.
“God sent me to tell the people of the South-East that President Bola Tinubu has good intentions for them,” Umahi said.
The statement is likely to generate political reactions as parties and political actors intensify preparations for 2027.
