Panic broke out in Affa community, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, after suspected gunmen invaded a Catholic church during Sunday Mass and abducted three people.
The incident occurred at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Inoyi, Affa, on Sunday morning, with a seminarian and two worshippers reportedly taken away by the attackers.
According to reports, the gunmen stormed the church while worshippers were attending the Sunday service, creating fear and confusion before abducting the victims.
The attack has heightened concerns over insecurity in the community, particularly the growing threat of kidnapping in parts of Enugu State.
The Nation reported that joint security operatives later rescued one of the three abducted victims following the incident.
The identities and current whereabouts of the remaining victims were not immediately clear at the time of reporting.
The incident has also raised concerns about the safety of churches and other places of worship, where worshippers may be particularly vulnerable to attacks during services.
Residents of Affa and surrounding communities are now awaiting further information from security authorities as efforts continue to locate the remaining abducted victims.
