FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has said he would accept his removal from office if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu decides to sack him in 2027, adding that he would remain politically relevant after leaving government.
Wike made the statement during an interview with Arise News anchor Charles Aniagolu while discussing his relationship with Tinubu and the political calculations surrounding the 2027 general elections.
The former Rivers State governor said his continued stay in the Federal Executive Council was ultimately at the discretion of the president.
He indicated that if Tinubu decided to remove him from office, he would accept the decision without treating it as the end of his political career.
Wike’s comments come amid renewed attention to his relationship with the APC-led administration and his decision to remain outside the ruling party while publicly supporting Tinubu’s re-election.
The minister has repeatedly maintained that his support for Tinubu does not mean he has joined the APC.
His political position has become particularly significant following the emergence of the Rainbow Coalition, which Wike has described as a broader political platform for mobilising support for Tinubu across party lines.
At the same time, some APC governors have opposed political arrangements they believe could weaken the party’s structures or its candidates in the 2027 elections.
Wike has rejected that interpretation, arguing that his support for Tinubu’s presidential bid can coexist with the participation of other political parties and candidates in legislative and governorship contests.
His latest comments underline his stated willingness to accept whatever decision the president makes about his cabinet position while signalling that his political activities could continue beyond his tenure in government.
