Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as tensions continue to rise over political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike described APC governors as “smart like 419” but “politically lazy” while reacting to the governors’ opposition to his Rainbow Coalition.

The minister made the remarks during an interview with Arise News on Tuesday.

His comments followed the APC Governors’ Forum’s declaration that its members would not support political alliances capable of undermining the APC, its candidates or President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Wike questioned the political logic behind the governors’ position, particularly their insistence that support for Tinubu should be tied to support for APC candidates across all levels.

He also took particular aim at Uzodimma, who chairs the APC Governors’ Forum.

Wike has previously accused Uzodimma and other governors of working against his political interests, while the APC governors have defended their position as a matter of protecting the party’s structure and candidates.

In the latest exchange, Wike rejected the suggestion that he had sought an alliance with the APC Governors’ Forum.

“There’s no day I went to the Governors’ Forum to align with Rainbow Coalition,” he said, according to reports of the interview.

The minister also argued that his support for Tinubu does not prevent other political parties from presenting candidates for governorship and legislative elections.

The dispute is the latest development in an increasingly public disagreement between Wike and sections of the APC leadership over how political support for Tinubu should operate ahead of the 2027 election.
