The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to hold a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference on Tuesday, October 6, as Nigeria’s 2027 general elections enter the final 100-day countdown.

The commission is expected to provide an update on its preparations for the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027.

INEC said the engagement would cover key aspects of the electoral process, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being implemented to protect the integrity of the elections.

Stakeholders expected in Abuja

The meeting is expected to bring together political party leaders, security agencies, civil society organisations, election observers, development partners, members of the diplomatic community, traditional and religious leaders, youth organisations and representatives of the media.

INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan is expected to address the gathering alongside other stakeholders involved in the electoral process.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

100 days to presidential election

INEC has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.

The 100-day milestone puts increased attention on the commission’s readiness, particularly the accuracy of the voters’ register, candidate accreditation, election logistics, security arrangements and the ability of political parties to comply with electoral rules.

The October 6 briefing will therefore provide an important opportunity for the commission to explain the state of preparations and address questions from political and civic stakeholders.
