The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated a 1,235-member campaign council as the party begins preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The council brings together party officials, political leaders and representatives of different sectors to coordinate the party’s campaign activities in the state.
The inauguration marks a formal expansion of the APC’s electoral machinery in Lagos ahead of the 2027 polls.
Candidates told to remain in Nigeria
As part of the campaign preparations, the party directed all its candidates to remain in Nigeria until after the elections.
The directive reflects the party’s emphasis on sustained grassroots mobilisation and participation in campaign activities as the electoral calendar advances.
The Lagos APC has already unveiled a broad campaign structure incorporating different directorates, including an Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate.
The list released by the party included prominent entertainment figures such as Jide Kosoko, Eniola Badmus and several other actors and musicians.
Campaign structure expands
The campaign council is expected to coordinate the party’s messaging, mobilisation and engagement with voters across Lagos.
Among the senior figures identified in the campaign structure are Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and former governor Babatunde Fashola, alongside other party leaders.
The structure also includes Senator Musiliu Obanikoro as Director-General and other officials responsible for campaign coordination.
The development comes as political parties across Nigeria build their campaign organisations ahead of the 2027 elections.
Toyin Abraham disputes inclusion
The inauguration was also followed by controversy over the inclusion of actress Toyin Abraham in the campaign council.
Abraham publicly denied being a member of the council and said she was staying out of politics, despite appearing on the party’s published list under the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate.
Her denial highlights the need to distinguish between names appearing on a campaign document and individuals who have publicly accepted the roles assigned to them.
The Lagos APC campaign council will now be responsible for translating the party’s electoral strategy into grassroots mobilisation as the 2027 election campaign gathers momentum.
