Minister of State for Defence Bello Mohammed Matawalle has been appointed Deputy Director of Security and Intelligence I in President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
The appointment was contained in the APC’s recently released campaign council structure, which names former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General.
Matawalle’s appointment places the serving minister in one of the campaign council’s key security and intelligence positions.
Zamfara leaders dominate key appointments
The Matawalle Political Movement has welcomed the appointments of prominent Zamfara politicians to the campaign structure.
The group highlighted Yari’s appointment as Director-General and Matawalle’s position as Deputy Director of Security and Intelligence I, while Governor Dauda Lawal was also included in the campaign structure under the Stakeholders Mobilisation Committee.
Other Zamfara figures were also appointed to different positions within the campaign council.
The development gives Zamfara State significant representation within Tinubu’s campaign machinery ahead of the 2027 election.
APC begins nationwide campaign mobilisation
The campaign council is expected to coordinate the ruling party’s presidential campaign across Nigeria, covering areas including mobilisation, election planning, logistics, media, security and intelligence.
Tinubu will chair the council, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice chairmen, while Yari takes responsibility for coordinating the campaign as Director-General.
The appointments come as the APC moves to consolidate its political structures ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
For Matawalle, the security and intelligence role adds a campaign responsibility to his existing position as Minister of State for Defence.
