Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has commended voter participation in the state’s local government elections, attributing the turnout to what he described as an enabling environment created by his administration.

Ododo spoke to journalists after casting his ballot at the Ukpokoro/Odenku ward in Okene Local Government Area on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

The governor said he was not surprised by the number of residents who turned out to vote, maintaining that the people had consistently supported his administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also commended the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KSIEC) over the conduct of the local government elections, expressing satisfaction with the atmosphere surrounding the exercise.

Beyond the local elections, Ododo used the opportunity to express confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s prospects in the 2027 presidential election, urging Nigerians to support the President’s bid for a second term.

“Mr President is doing well and we must support him for second term. He is doing his best and he needs everyone’s support,” the governor said.

He cited security as one of the areas in which he believes the Federal Government has made efforts, arguing that Nigerians should support the President in the forthcoming election.

“The President must be given total and absolute support in the coming election,” Ododo added.

Reports from the polling exercise indicated that election materials arrived at polling units early, while voters turned out to participate in the process.

The local government elections provide an important test of political organisation and participation at the grassroots level, particularly for parties seeking to consolidate their support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, voter turnout and the level of support for individual political parties must ultimately be assessed through verified election results rather than the observations or expectations of political officeholders.

Ododo’s endorsement of Tinubu also reflects the APC’s broader efforts to mobilise support for the President’s re-election campaign, with party leaders across the country increasingly making their positions known ahead of the next presidential contest.
