A faction of the Accord Party led by Prof. Christopher Imumolen has withdrawn its support for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of Saturday’s election.
Imumolen announced the endorsement during the APC’s mega rally in Osogbo on Thursday.
He declared his faction’s support for Oyebamiji as the APC intensified its campaign ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
However, the development has triggered a fresh dispute over the leadership and representation of Accord in Osun State.
Reports indicate that Imumolen represents a faction of the party, while Adeleke’s campaign council has rejected the endorsement, describing it as the position of a factional leader rather than the recognised position of the party.
The Adeleke camp has maintained that the governor remains the recognised Accord candidate for the election.
The competing claims have added another layer to an already intense Osun election, with Adeleke, Oyebamiji and other candidates battling for votes ahead of Saturday’s poll.
