The opposition party says Nyesom Wike remains a committed member despite serving as FCT minister under President Tinubu.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed suggestions that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, could permanently align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he remains one of its most valuable political assets.
The party’s position was conveyed by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, following remarks by APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who commended Wike’s performance during a project commissioning ceremony in Abuja.
According to the PDP, the commendation reflects recognition of the leadership quality within its ranks and does not alter Wike’s political affiliation. The party maintained that Wike remains a committed and loyal member despite his appointment in the APC-led administration.
The statement comes amid continuing discussions surrounding Wike’s political positioning since assuming office as FCT minister. The PDP’s response seeks to clarify its position regarding his membership and role within the party.
The PDP stated that Wike’s service in the Federal Government should not be interpreted as political defection and stressed that there are no plans to relinquish what it described as one of its most valuable political assets.
The party reaffirmed that Wike remains an integral member of the PDP and said his current role does not diminish his longstanding contributions to the opposition party.
