Vice-President Kashim Shettima has defended the Tinubu administration’s record in Northern Nigeria, pointing to development projects and infrastructure interventions intended to support communities across the region.

Shettima spoke at the launch of the Bauchi Shettima Forum for Asiwaju (BASFA) at an event centre in Bauchi State, where he highlighted projects being undertaken through the North-East Development Commission (NEDC).

He said the commission had initiated projects worth billions of naira under the current administration, with interventions aimed at rebuilding communities and improving infrastructure across the North-East.

According to Shettima, several projects had been inaugurated in Bauchi and other North-Eastern states, while additional developments were expected to be commissioned.

Government Highlights Regional Investment

The North-East has faced prolonged security challenges, displacement and infrastructure damage, making reconstruction and development important priorities for the region.

Development initiatives in the area are intended to support infrastructure, restore essential services and improve economic opportunities for affected communities.

Shettima argued that the administration’s interventions demonstrated its commitment to regional development and should form part of the assessment of its performance ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The vice-president’s comments form part of the broader political effort by the APC to defend its record and strengthen support in Northern Nigeria.

Projects and Outcomes Under Scrutiny

Although Shettima cited the scale of the investments, the overall impact of the interventions will depend on the projects completed, the quality of infrastructure delivered and the benefits experienced by residents.

Transparent reporting on project costs, locations, completion status and outcomes would help the public assess the administration’s claims.

The North-East’s development needs remain substantial, particularly in communities affected by insecurity and displacement.

As the 2027 election approaches, the performance of development agencies and the delivery of promised projects are likely to remain important issues in the debate over the federal government’s record in the region.
