A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), identified as Ridwan Adeyemo, has reportedly been hacked to death by suspected assailants in Ibadan, Oyo State, in an incident that has prompted calls for a police investigation.

APC Calls for Investigation
The party said Adeyemo was a member of its Ward 06 in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area and worked as a commercial motorcyclist.
According to the APC, he was attacked by a group of armed men in the Ita-Barika area of Agbokojo.
The party’s leadership condemned the killing and expressed condolences to the deceased’s family, describing the incident as a serious security concern.
The APC also alleged, citing accounts it said had been received, that the attackers questioned Adeyemo about his political affiliation before the assault.
That account has not been independently confirmed by the police, and the motive for the killing remains unverified.
The party called for a thorough investigation and urged security agencies to identify and apprehend the suspects.
It also said it would support efforts to ensure that those found responsible face the law.
Political Tensions Raise Security Concerns
The killing comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 general election, a period during which concerns about political intimidation and violence often feature prominently in public debate.
The APC said the incident reinforced its concerns about the safety of party members and called for more proactive security measures to prevent attacks on political supporters.
However, the motive should not be treated as established until investigators have gathered sufficient evidence.
A credible investigation will need to establish the circumstances of the attack, identify those involved and determine whether the victim was targeted because of his political affiliation or for another reason.
Police Investigation Remains Crucial
The police have a central role in determining what happened and whether the killing was politically motivated.
Investigators will need to obtain witness accounts, examine available evidence and pursue credible leads to establish the identities of the attackers and any possible accomplices.
The incident also highlights the importance of protecting residents and political supporters regardless of their party affiliation.
As of the latest reports cited here, the police had not publicly confirmed the attack, while the APC had confirmed Adeyemo’s death and called for action.
The outcome of any investigation will be important in establishing responsibility and providing clarity for the victim’s family and the wider community.
