President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians to give his administration more time to complete what he described as the work of rebuilding the country.
Tinubu made the appeal in a message delivered by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, during a special prayer session at the National Mosque in Abuja to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The President said his administration was working to address mistakes and missed opportunities inherited from previous governments, while urging Nigerians not to lose hope in the country’s future.
Tinubu Highlights Peace and Development
According to the President, Nigeria’s journey since independence has been marked by significant challenges as well as opportunities.
He said the government was focused on correcting what he described as cumulative mistakes of previous administrations and creating conditions for improved national development.
Tinubu also expressed optimism that peace and development were gradually returning to the country.
Appeal Comes Ahead of 2027
The President’s call for additional time comes as Nigeria moves toward the 2027 general elections, when voters will assess the record and promises of political parties and candidates.
His administration has continued to highlight its economic and institutional reforms, while critics have raised concerns about the effects of economic pressures and the pace of improvement in living conditions.
