Residents of Ede, the hometown of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, turned out early on Saturday to participate in the state’s governorship election.
Accreditation and voting commenced across Osun State as voters arrived at polling units to exercise their constitutional right to choose the next governor of the state.
Reports from Ede indicated that voters began arriving at polling locations as early as 6:30 a.m., with vehicles also seen conveying voters and National Youth Service Corps members to different polling units ahead of the exercise.
The early turnout was recorded as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the electoral process across the state’s 30 local government areas.
Governor Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform, also arrived at his polling unit in Ede to cast his vote.
Voting has been reported across several parts of Osun, with security personnel maintaining a visible presence around polling units.
Reports from Osogbo, Ede and Ilesa indicated early voter turnout alongside heavy security deployment as the election got underway.
The election is being closely watched because of the intense political contest between Adeleke and the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as well as the broader political significance of the poll ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC is expected to continue receiving and processing results from polling units after the conclusion of voting.
