Military sources say insurgents attacked an army formation along the Mandara–Buratai Road in Borno State.

Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly attacked a Nigerian Army base along the Mandara–Buratai Road in Borno State, killing at least eight soldiers and injuring several others.

Military sources said the attack occurred in the early hours of the morning as insurgents stormed the facility during what appeared to be a coordinated assault.

The incident adds to continuing security concerns in the North-East, where insurgent groups have sustained attacks on both military formations and civilian communities despite years of counter-insurgency operations.

Reports from the area indicate that some victims were beheaded during the assault, highlighting the brutality that has continued to define parts of the conflict.

The attack also places renewed attention on the fragile security conditions around strategic military routes within Borno State, long regarded as a major theatre in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency.

As of the time of reporting, military authorities had not released an official statement detailing the full casualty figure or operational response following the attack.
