FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has urged PDP candidates preparing for the 2027 elections to be ready to fight politically for power rather than expect an easy return.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has told candidates contesting the 2027 general election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party that power will not come to them “on a platter of gold.”

Wike’s message, delivered as part of his remarks to PDP hopefuls, was a direct warning against complacency as the party prepares for the next election cycle. He told the candidates to be prepared to struggle for power, making it clear that reclaiming political ground would require effort, organisation and determination rather than expectation.

The statement reflects the increasingly open language now shaping early 2027 political positioning. Even before formal campaigns gather pace, party leaders are already speaking in terms of contest, discipline and the hard work required to compete effectively. Wike’s intervention fits squarely within that atmosphere.

His remarks also underline the realities facing the PDP as it looks toward the next national contest. Rather than present the road ahead as automatic, Wike framed it as one that would require deliberate political struggle from those seeking office under the party’s banner.

For now, the FCT minister’s position is unambiguous: candidates who want power in 2027 must be prepared to fight for it.
