RCCG leader urges calm amid political tension, says divine will—not human effort—will decide outcome
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has stated that the outcome of Nigeria’s next presidential election has already been decided by God.
Adeboye made the remark during a workers’ meeting at the Redemption City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where he addressed concerns about the country’s political future.
According to him, “The next president has already been decided by God who owns the universe,” emphasising that human actions alone cannot ultimately determine who emerges victorious in the 2027 election.
The cleric, however, clarified that his statement should not discourage civic participation. He urged Nigerians to remain engaged in the political process while recognising what he described as the supremacy of divine will in national affairs.
Adeboye’s comments come as political conversations begin to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with early alignments and public discourse already shaping expectations.
His latest position marks a shift from previous election cycles, particularly in 2023 when he stated that God had not revealed the identity of Nigeria’s next president to him and encouraged citizens to vote according to their convictions.
Religious leaders in Nigeria have historically played influential roles in shaping public opinion, especially during election periods, often blending spiritual guidance with civic responsibility. Analysts note that such statements can resonate widely in a deeply religious society like Nigeria
As preparations for the 2027 elections gradually unfold, Adeboye’s remarks add a spiritual dimension to political discourse, even as citizens are expected to participate actively in the democratic process.
