Senator Francis Fadahunsi has been released by the Osun State Police Command after honouring an invitation over a viral comment in which he was allegedly heard telling supporters to “kill Accord” ahead of the state’s governorship election.
Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, arrived at the police headquarters in Osogbo after being summoned by the command.
The senator was reportedly questioned for more than two hours before being allowed to leave the premises.
The controversy followed a video of Fadahunsi’s remarks at a political gathering, which generated widespread reactions amid heightened tensions ahead of the Osun governorship election.
Fadahunsi has subsequently clarified that his use of the word “kill” was a political expression referring to defeating the Accord Party through votes and not an instruction to engage in physical violence.
The incident has nevertheless heightened concerns about inflammatory rhetoric and election-related violence as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the poll.
