Claim emerges amid outrage over the killing of 28-year-old Oghenemine Ogidi and ongoing investigation into police conduct

The mother of Oghenemine Ogidi, a 28-year-old musician reportedly killed by a police officer in Delta State, has alleged that she has now lost two sons to police-related incidents, deepening public concern over alleged brutality within the force.

Ogidi, popularly known as “OG Millan,” was fatally shot on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State, during a police operation that has since sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability.

In an emotional account during a condolence visit by community figures and human rights advocates, the grieving mother said this was not her first loss involving police actions.

“My two children were killed by the police… They first took my son in 2022, and now they have taken another one from me again,” she said.

The latest incident has drawn national attention after a viral video appeared to show the victim restrained before being shot, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the operation. Authorities have confirmed that the officer involved, identified as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, has been taken into custody and is facing disciplinary procedures.

According to the Delta State Police Command, the shooting violated operational guidelines, including rules governing the use of firearms. Officials have pledged that the officer will face prosecution, while assuring the public of a transparent investigation.

The case has also triggered protests in parts of Delta State, with residents and activists demanding justice for the deceased and broader reforms to address alleged extrajudicial killings by security operatives.

The Police Service Commission has condemned the incident, describing it as a serious breach of legal and professional standards, and reaffirmed the need to uphold human rights in policing.

As investigations continue, the incident is likely to intensify scrutiny on police accountability and the use of force in Nigeria.
