The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately order an independent forensic investigation into the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), insisting that the Presidency must be held accountable over claims involving the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified pressure on the Tinubu administration over the ongoing PFIPC controversy, urging President Bola Tinubu to establish an independent forensic panel to investigate allegations surrounding the purported government body.
The opposition party argued that the Presidency cannot simply dismiss the allegations through official statements, insisting that the claims deserve a transparent and credible investigation.
In a statement issued by its Interim National Working Committee (INWC), the PDP said the allegations surrounding the PFIPC have raised serious questions about accountability and institutional integrity within the Federal Government.
The party maintained that the Presidency faces two possibilities: either senior government officials failed to detect and prevent the alleged activities of a body the Presidency says does not exist, or there were lapses that require independent scrutiny.
The PDP specifically called for a forensic investigation into documents, approvals, financial transactions and administrative processes linked to the controversy, insisting that only an independent probe can establish the facts.
The PFIPC controversy emerged after Prince Matthew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to have headed the council, made a series of allegations regarding its operations.
The Presidency has consistently maintained that the PFIPC is not a recognised Federal Government agency and has denied the existence of the council.
In recent days, opposition parties and civil society groups have made similar calls for investigations, while government officials have rejected allegations of wrongdoing.
The PDP urged President Tinubu to authorise what it described as a transparent, comprehensive and independent forensic investigation rather than relying on internal administrative reviews.
The party also argued that public confidence in government institutions requires an impartial investigation capable of determining whether any officials acted improperly.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had not issued a fresh response to the PDP’s latest demand beyond its earlier position that the PFIPC is a fictitious organisation.
The latest demand adds to growing political pressure surrounding the PFIPC controversy, which has become one of the country’s most debated governance issues in recent weeks. Whether the Federal Government orders an independent investigation may shape public discourse as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
