Minister of Works, David Umahi, says insecurity in Nigeria predates the Tinubu administration and should not be reduced to partisan attacks..

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has pushed back against criticisms directed at President Bola Tinubu over the country’s worsening insecurity situation, insisting that the crisis did not begin under the current administration.

Umahi made the remarks while cautioning Nigerians against politicising insecurity, arguing that the issue has existed long before Tinubu assumed office. According to him, discussions around security should not be turned into partisan attacks against the President.

The minister said it was unfortunate that some people speak about insecurity “as if it started within the administration” of President Tinubu. He maintained that national security remains a collective responsibility and should be approached with caution rather than political hostility.

His comments come at a time when concerns over kidnappings, banditry and violent attacks continue to dominate public discourse across parts of the country. The remarks also reflect growing efforts within the Federal Government to defend the administration’s handling of the security situation.

Umahi further expressed confidence that the Tinubu administration would eventually overcome the challenges confronting the country, while urging Nigerians to support the government rather than deepen political divisions around the issue.

The minister’s position adds to the wider national conversation surrounding insecurity, governance and public expectations as pressure continues to mount on authorities to improve safety across affected communities.
