Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has announced the rescue of a woman and her young son who were kidnapped in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, following a joint operation involving his Iru Ekun Security Network and operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Kwara State.

A woman abducted in Igbope, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, alongside her son, has regained her freedom after a joint rescue operation carried out by members of Sunday Igboho’s Iru Ekun Security Network and the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force.

The operation reportedly culminated in a fierce gun battle with the kidnappers in a forest in Kwara State before the victims were rescued.

According to a statement issued by Igboho’s media office, the rescued victims were identified as Adijat Kubura Aliqlas and her son, Abdulmalik.

The statement said the operation followed about three days of intelligence gathering and surveillance involving members of the Iru Ekun Security Network and police operatives led by ASP Amos Ajegoke of the IRT.

It explained that security operatives tracked the suspected kidnappers to the Bode Sadu axis before laying an ambush after the abductors allegedly agreed to collect ransom from the victims’ relatives.

According to the statement, the security team confronted the kidnappers shortly after midnight, leading to an exchange of gunfire inside the forest.

The kidnappers reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds after abandoning the woman and her son during the pursuit.

The statement added that both victims were rescued alive and reunited with their family after receiving medical attention. Police authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with the incident.

Sunday Igboho praised members of his security network and the Nigeria Police Force for their cooperation during the rescue mission.

He also urged residents of Oyo and neighbouring states to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies, saying community support remains essential in combating kidnapping and other violent crimes.

The successful rescue comes amid growing concerns over kidnapping and insecurity across parts of southwest Nigeria. Authorities have continued to encourage closer collaboration between communities, local security outfits and conventional security agencies to improve intelligence gathering and enhance public safety.
