The FCT Minister says he would have advised former Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi not to seek the presidency on the ADC platform because he had already observed the direction events were taking within the party.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he would have advised former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi against contesting for the presidency under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) if he had sought his opinion beforehand.

Speaking on the developments surrounding the party, Wike said he had already seen what he described as a “set-up” within the ADC and believed the outcome of events had become increasingly predictable.

According to him, had Amaechi reached out before making his decision, he would have recommended against pursuing the presidential ambition on the platform.

The comments come amid ongoing discussions following political developments within the ADC and the emergence of its presidential candidate, a process that has generated debate among party stakeholders and observers.

Wike’s remarks add another chapter to the long-running political relationship between the two Rivers politicians, whose careers have frequently intersected within Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

While the minister did not suggest any alternative platform, his comments reflected concerns about the internal dynamics that shaped the party’s presidential race.

The ADC continues to navigate the aftermath of its primary process as political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.
