NCDC Director-General Dr Jide Idris says Nigeria’s preparedness for a potential Ebola outbreak currently stands at 59 percent.

The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Dr Jide Idris, has disclosed that Nigeria’s preparedness level for a potential Ebola outbreak currently stands at 59 percent.

The assessment comes as health authorities continue efforts to strengthen surveillance systems, emergency response mechanisms and disease-monitoring capacity across the country.

According to Idris, the preparedness score reflects ongoing work being carried out to ensure Nigeria remains capable of detecting, containing and responding effectively to any potential outbreak should the need arise.

The disclosure places renewed attention on public health readiness, particularly given the lessons learned from previous Ebola responses and the importance of maintaining vigilance against emerging infectious diseases.

Health authorities have continued to emphasize the need for collaboration among federal and state institutions, healthcare facilities and public health partners in strengthening outbreak preparedness.

The NCDC maintains that preparedness remains an ongoing process requiring continuous monitoring, assessment and improvement across key response areas.

The latest evaluation provides a snapshot of Nigeria’s current state of readiness as officials continue efforts aimed at improving national health security.
