Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has appointed lawyer, actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo as his official spokesperson ahead of the 2027 presidential election campaign.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has appointed prominent lawyer and actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo as his official spokesperson for the 2027 presidential campaign under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The appointment marks a significant addition to Atiku’s campaign team as political activities ahead of the general election continue to gather momentum.
Kenneth Okonkwo announced the appointment in a statement shared on his verified X account, expressing gratitude to Atiku for the confidence reposed in him.
“I give God all the glory to be appointed by His Excellency Atiku Abubakar as his spokesperson. I thank HE AA for the immense confidence reposed in me,” Okonkwo said.
The appointment comes weeks after public disagreements within the ADC over the party’s vice-presidential nomination. Okonkwo had openly criticised the emergence of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate, arguing that the decision did not adequately reflect the interests of the South-East.
Despite the earlier disagreement, both men appear to have reconciled, with the latest appointment signalling renewed cooperation within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Okonkwo previously served as one of the spokespersons for Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign before leaving the Labour Party and later joining the ADC.
In his statement, Okonkwo thanked Atiku for what he described as an opportunity to serve, adding that he remains committed to communicating the party’s vision to Nigerians.
The appointment further strengthens Atiku’s campaign structure as the ADC continues preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
The announcement represents one of the most notable campaign appointments by the ADC so far, with Kenneth Okonkwo expected to play a central role in articulating Atiku Abubakar’s policies and responding to political developments as the race toward the 2027 general election intensifies.
