Troops launched a counter-operation after suspected bandits barricaded a major road and abducted travellers in Kabba-Bunu LGA.

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 23 abducted passengers following an attack by suspected bandits along the Ayegunle–Bunu Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident reportedly occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Monday when armed attackers barricaded the road and targeted commuters travelling through the area. Several passengers were abducted during the assault before troops launched a counter-operation.

Military authorities said soldiers of the 12 Brigade responded swiftly after receiving information about the attack, leading to a rescue mission that secured the release of 23 victims.

The operation also led to the recovery of vehicles abandoned during the incident, while security personnel intensified efforts to track the fleeing attackers.

The latest operation highlights the continuing security challenges facing major transport corridors, where travellers have increasingly faced threats from kidnapping gangs and armed criminal groups.

Authorities say security operations in the area remain ongoing.
