Relatives of victims abducted from Woro community say information received from captors suggests preparations for a religious ceremony involving those held in captivity.
Families of women and children abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have raised fresh concerns over reports that suspected terrorists are planning a Qur’anic graduation ceremony for victims currently being held in captivity.
According to the families, the information emerged during recent telephone conversations with the abductors. They claimed the captors disclosed plans involving more than 100 women and children who remain in detention months after the attack on the community.
The report returns attention to the aftermath of the deadly assault on Woro and surrounding communities earlier this year, an attack that left scores dead and led to the abduction of women and children.
The latest claims have deepened anxiety among affected families, many of whom continue to await the return of their relatives amid ongoing security concerns in the area.
The situation has also coincided with heightened fears in Kaiama, where reports indicate growing concern over the activities of armed groups operating around affected communities.
As of the time of reporting, authorities had not publicly confirmed the reported plans allegedly communicated by the abductors.
