PRP says competence should outweigh regional considerations in the choice of a presidential candidate.
Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has said the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) is not focused on zoning arrangements as it prepares for future electoral contests, insisting that Nigeria’s most urgent need is capable leadership.
According to him, the party intends to field a candidate irrespective of the individual’s region of origin, arguing that geographical considerations should not override competence.
Baba-Ahmed maintained that the long-running debate over which part of the country should produce the next president has done more harm than good to national development.
Drawing from recent political experience, he pointed to the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that regional origin alone does not guarantee effective governance.
His remarks place renewed attention on an enduring national conversation: whether leadership selection should prioritize balancing regional interests or identifying individuals considered most capable of addressing the country’s challenges.
For the PRP, the emphasis appears firmly placed on the latter.
