The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Nasarawa State, Rev. Dr. Sunday Emma, has urged Christians to actively participate in elections, describing the failure to vote as a sin and encouraging eligible Nigerians to register and defend the sanctity of their votes.

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Nasarawa State, Rev. Dr. Sunday Emma, has called on Christians across the country to take part in elections, saying abstaining from voting amounts to a sin. He made the remark while speaking with journalists in Lafia, where he stressed that civic participation is both a constitutional responsibility and a biblical obligation.

Rev. Emma said Christians should not become discouraged by claims that votes do not count or that election outcomes are predetermined. According to him, believers are expected to exercise their civic rights whenever elections are conducted.

He also urged eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered as voters to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), noting that participating in the electoral process is an important way of contributing to national development.

The cleric expressed concern over Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges, arguing that citizens cannot expect positive leadership outcomes without participating in elections.

He further lamented the increasing trend of electoral disputes ending in court, saying elections should ultimately be decided by votes cast at polling units rather than through prolonged litigation.

Rev. Emma called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to continue conducting credible elections and urged members of the judiciary to remain fair and impartial when handling election-related cases.

He also commended efforts to promote peaceful coexistence in Nasarawa State and encouraged Christians to continue supporting initiatives that strengthen national unity and democratic governance.

The CAN chairman maintained that active participation in elections remains one of the most important civic responsibilities of Nigerians, urging Christians to register, vote peacefully and continue praying for credible elections and good governance across the country.
