Former Labour Party presidential candidate condemns rising attacks on schools and kidnappings across Nigeria.

Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has lamented the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, declaring that school children are now being turned into “pawns in a ransom economy.”

Obi made the remark while reacting to repeated terrorist attacks and abductions targeting schools across the country. He accused the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu of failing to adequately protect lives and secure learning environments for Nigerian children.

The former presidential candidate warned that the growing fear among parents and students could further damage Nigeria’s already struggling education sector. According to him, children should be in classrooms learning, not living under the constant threat of kidnappers and terrorists.

His comments have reignited criticism of the Federal Government’s security strategy, especially as several communities continue to battle mass abductions and violent attacks. Many Nigerians on social media echoed Obi’s concerns, describing the situation as a national emergency.

Security experts say the repeated targeting of schools by criminal gangs has created long-term psychological and economic consequences, particularly in northern communities where education access is already fragile.
