Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has approved scholarships for more than 760 beneficiaries under the state’s 2025/2026 Local Scholarship Scheme as part of efforts to expand access to education and strengthen human capital development.

Governor Peter Mbah has approved scholarships for over 760 beneficiaries across Enugu State under the 2025/2026 Local Scholarship Scheme, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving access to quality education and investing in human capital development. The beneficiaries include undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as public school teachers drawn from the state’s 17 local government areas.

The Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board, Chukwuemeka Mbah, disclosed that the beneficiaries comprise more than 500 undergraduate students, 100 postgraduate students and over 160 public school teachers.

He explained that successful applicants emerged through a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and are being notified through text messages and emails on a local government-by-local government basis for verification and documentation before the awards are finalised.

According to the board, the inclusion of public school teachers is intended to strengthen classroom instruction and support the implementation of Enugu State’s experiential learning model.

Officials described the scholarship programme as a strategic investment aimed at removing financial barriers to education while developing the skilled workforce needed to drive the state’s long-term economic growth.

Chukwuemeka Mbah urged successful applicants to promptly complete the verification process, adding that additional beneficiaries would be captured in subsequent phases of the scholarship programme.

He reiterated that the initiative reflects Governor Peter Mbah’s commitment to ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent qualified residents from accessing quality education.

The scholarship scheme is one of several education-focused initiatives introduced by the Enugu State Government to expand educational opportunities and build the human capital required to support the state’s development agenda. Authorities say more qualified applicants will benefit as the programme progresses.
